Quick Supper Ideas for You!

Do you find yourself getting home late or being pushed for time to cook dinner? Are you unable to think of some quick supper ideas? When you are in a hurry or getting home after a long day of work, it’s hard to motivate yourself to whip something up in the kitchen. A lot of people resort to fast food or other unhealthy options because they can’t come up with any quick supper ideas. While it’s easy to do that, in the long run you need to establish a system to keep the same problem from happening over and over.

So what are some good quick supper ideas?

  1. Marinade! One of the easiest ways to make a quick supper for you and your family is to use marinade. Try throwing any fresh vegetables you may have along with some chicken, beef, or pork into a zip lock bag. I like to use chicken with vegetables like okra, green beans, carrots, and tomatoes, but whichever vegetables you prefer will work fine.
  2. If you can let all the ingredients marinate a little while before cooking, that’s best. If not, don’t worry about it. I usually don’t let them marinate for more than half an hour and they still turn out great. Just put a little olive oil in a pan, set the stove on medium heat, and stir. If you use vegetables like onions or bell peppers that take a little longer to cook, make sure to toss them in first.

Those two simple steps will let you create hundreds of unique quick supper ideas. Mix up the vegetables and meats and marinades. With beef I like to use heavier, darker marinades like worcestershire sauce sauce or BBQ sauce. With chicken I usually use something lighter like vinaigrette or Italian dressings. Most salad dressings with an oil or vinegar base work great with either chicken or pork.

My personal favorite recipe (feeds 4)

2 cloves of garlic (minced)

4 chicken breasts (without the skin and cut into ½ inch thick slices)

1 onion chopped

1 cup of okra (cut into 1 inch pieces)

1 fresh tomato cubed

1 cup of green beans (cut into 1 inch pieces)

Italian Dressing

Olive Oil

Put the olive oil in the skillet along with the onions and garlic and cook over medium heat until the onions are translucent. Add the chicken, okra, tomato, green beans, and Italian dressing. Turn the heat down low and let simmer until the chicken is cooked all the way though and all the vegetables are tender.

That’s it. It usually only takes me 30 minutes to cook and can be used for a whole family or you can save the leftovers to eat later. Cooking extra is a good idea as it gives you something to heat up later without having to cook again.
